In the Buffalo News, Jordan Stone, a working partner with the makers of Reese’s ColoTest, gives a tidbit of his life and passion behind screening for colorectal cancer. He explains FIT tests were never a professional goal but a personal one. He saw a lack of awareness and education about this deadly disease.
“We often hear that early detection saves lives, but it only works if people get screened. For me, this is more than just a slogan—it’s a truth I live every day.”
While the reasons behind the consistent incline of colon cancer in younger individuals are unclear, one thing is sure: we need more screening options.
Invasive at-home options like FIT tests can be a part of a comprehensive strategy for colon cancer screening. FIT tests identify invisible blood in the stool, which can be an early warning sign of colon cancer. “They don’t replace colonoscopies, but they can prioritize patients who require urgent care, especially in rural and underserved communities where access to specialized imaging is limited.”
